Mel—Getting Down

Dr. Judy Schavrien's work as artist and psychotherapist was a cover story in the international progressive women's journal On The Issues. For her work in the arts she has received 13 national and international prizes. A featured artist in Frontiers Magazine and Slant, her paintings are published in the Japanese journal Abiko Quarterly and yearly in the Directory of San Francisco Artists. Recently nominated Oakland's Artist of the Year, she exhibits solo at the Jack London Square Barnes & Noble this coming summer.

Her PhD is from the University of Chicago where she was a friend a student of the late Harold Rosenberg, New Yorker art critic and advocate of the action painters.

Some non-artist honors: Founded in a team the world's first Women's Spirituality Masters and Doctoral degrees at CIIS and received an award for that as Founding Mother. She appears this year in the 25th Anniversary publication of Who's Who in American Women.
